Upgraded is a small Gold Coast AI software studio run by Nathan Graham, a self-taught developer with nearly two decades of commercial experience on the other side of the desk: strategic sales, executive leadership, and scaling startups into companies turning over tens of millions a year.
The story
The long way round.
I started building websites at 15, hunched over a beige Windows 95 PC in my parents' spare room. Fan sites for video games. Early band pages. GeoCities, Angelfire, then Flash when Flash still felt new. It was a hobby, not a career. I built sites for mates, for free, because I liked the puzzle. An often less acknowledged creative outlet.
The day job went in a different direction. I spent nearly two decades in sales, then executive leadership, growing startup businesses from a single employee into companies turning over tens of millions a year. Strategy, growth, change management, leading teams, building go-to-market from scratch. I watched what actually moves the needle for a small business. I also watched a lot of small businesses pay a lot of money for websites that did not move any needles at all.
That's why Upgraded exists. Websites that look good are easy. Websites that rank, convert, hold up, and compound over time are built by someone who understands the business first and the code second. I bring both.
Years of building on the side, leading businesses during the day, and learning what separates a website that earns its place on the balance sheet from one that quietly sits there costing money. Upgraded is the studio I wanted to hire when I was the one signing the invoices. It turns out a lot of other business owners wanted to hire it too.

Why we exist
Most software just adds to the bill. We build software that earns its keep.
We watch small businesses pay for software they never fully use. CRMs gathering dust. Marketing tools paid monthly that nobody opens. AI subscriptions added because everyone else has one. The bill grows. The work does not.

That is what Upgraded does on the AI software side. We design and ship full products: AI receptionists, branded content pipelines, custom workflow agents. Built for Australian SMB economics. AI tools are run by Upgraded as a monthly service so you do not need to learn the stack. Websites get the Ongoing Partnership option for the same reason. Either way, we do not hand over the keys and walk.
The studio
Lean by design.
Upgraded runs lean on purpose. Nathan is close to every project, from discovery call to launch to the monthly review a year later. Production work is handled in-house, with a short list of trusted collaborators brought in for specialist pieces (copywriting, photography, custom illustration) when a project calls for them. The studio stays small so the day rate stays fair and the quality stays consistent.
Based in Palm Beach on the Gold Coast. Most clients are within a three-hour drive; the rest are spread across Australia and the occasional international engagement. We have run full projects from Byron to Perth without a single on-site meeting. The work travels fine.
What you get that you don't usually get: a studio whose founder has sat in the operator's chair for two decades. When we push back on a brief, it's because we've watched the same decision play out at scale before. When we recommend a simpler structure, it's because we know what actually converts.
